 Living and Learning with HCE

The Manitowoc County Association for Home and Community Education (HCE) is a non-profit, educational, and service organization. Membership is open to all individuals without regard to race, sex, color, ethnic background, residence or economic circumstances.

Reasons to belong to the Manitowoc County HCE Association are:

HCE collaborates with the Manitowoc County Soil and Water Department to assist them in an effort to increase the number of private wells tested this year.

Any Manitowoc County resident interested in getting their well water tested should contact the Soil and Water Department at (920) 683-4183. When calling, state that you saw this offer on the Family Living website.

  2011 Scholarship Winners

The Manitowoc County UW-Extension Association of Home and Community Education (HCE) held their annual Spring Association meeting, Salad Supper, and Cultural Arts Show at the Manitowoc County Office Complex on Wednesday, May 10th. Two Manitowoc County youth and one HCE member garnered scholarships.

Michelle Sickinger a Manitowoc Lutheran senior and granddaughter of HCE member Ruth Behnke, and Bianca Krause, Mishicot High School senior and granddaughter of HCE member Joan Krause, each received a $500 scholarship to further their education at St. Norbert College and the University of Minnesota respectively.

Janet Wesener, a resident of Kiel and member of the Edwards HCE Club, was awarded the $100 Adult Scholarship for continuing education.  She will attend the 2011 WAHCE state conference in Onalaska in September and will share her experience with the county organization and other clubs who may be interested.

Each spring, applications are taken for two student scholarship awards and one adult scholarship. Evaluation criteria include academic achievement, participation in activities, demonstration of leadership, contributions to the community, and personal and professional goals. Scholarships are made possible through HCE fund raisers.
