Winter 2018 Session Topics: Cover Crops and Reduced/ No-Till Systems

Join us each month to hear how area producers and their agronomists are making cover crops and reduced/no-till systems work on their farm. Hear their stories on the successes and challenges. These sessions will be informal with open dialogue. Refreshments and snacks will be provided.  No cost to attend.

Bruce Riesterer & Shawn Eckstein, Eckstein Agronomics LLC

January 23rd, 2018, 10am– 12pm

Bruce Riesterer and his family run a cash cropping operation in Manitowoc and Calumet Counties. The Riesterer’s have been using no-till planting methods and cover crops on their cropland since 2011. The Riesterer’s work with Shawn Eckstein, the Owner/Agronomist of Eckstein Agronomics LLC. Join us to hear their story…

Dan Meyer, Dan Meyer Family Farm & Matt Rataczak, NRCS

February 8th, 2018, 10am– 12pm

Dan Meyer and his family run a 150 cow dairy operation in Southern Manitowoc County. The Meyer’s first started to implement no-till and cover cropping practices on their land 10 years ago. Today, they operate their land 100% no-till and use cover crops whenever possible. Matt Rataczak, NRCS, will be present to share his knowledge on cover cropping and tillage practices and also provide information on federal cost share programs that may be available for your farm. Joe Heyroth, Schoner-Hugel Farms LLC

March 1st, 2018, 10am– 12pm

Joe Heyroth, in partnership with farm members, Tom and Richard, operate a 100 cow dairy operation near Mishicot. The Heyroth’s first started incorporating cover crops into their cropping systems in 2010 and have been using no-till practices since the early 1990’s. The Heyroth’s work with Galen Schaufnagel, an Agronomist with County Visions. Join us to hear his story…

Jim Fitzgerald, Soaring Eagle Dairy LLC & Steve Hoffman, InDepth Agronomy

March 29th, 2018, 10am– 12pm

Jim Fitzgerald and his family run a 1,150 cow dairy operation in central Manitowoc County. The Fitzgerald’s use both no-till and minimum tillage practices on their cropland and currently have 400 acres planted in cover crops. The Fitzgerarld’s work with Steve Hoffmann, the Owner/Agronomist of InDepth Agronomy. Join us to hear their story…
